Widget! Widget!

Hi guys,

A new version has been uploaded today, and now two widgets are available! The first one is for android > 3.0 users, which according to flurry is the majority of Fabrik Reader users. And it looks like this:

Personally I would like to stack it in another direction, but I didn't find any way to do that so...

And this little 1x1 book cover widget here, is for everybody:

So basically now you can create kind of "a short cut" for any of your books in your "desktop". Hope you like them :)

I think I'll create more widgets in the future, but right now I really want to focus on the new render engine (btw in this update I also fixed a major bug in the current render engine which will cause missing paragraph). It's definitely what's coming next, but it'll take some time. It's like writing a tiny web browser, you don't need to know anything about programming to understand that it's not an easy job to do. So please be patient, and I'll move as fast as I can!

Thank you for your support, and enjoy!

  1. Thanks, for fixing paragraphs! :-) i think that the page animation is also better, but maybe it's just my happiness of that fix....is it possible to have change log somewhere inside 'about' section? Very good job.

  2. In regards to the new widgets, can you add the ability to link to books directly like Aldiko does? So that if we make our own widgets, for example, using desktop visualizer we can use it to add our own cover and link to the book. When widget is pressed the book would open

  4. @chronicfireworks, Thats pretty much how it works now (at least the linking to individual books)...

Anyway for my 2 cents worth, I just bought the pro version as the app seems to have been working reasonably well and the widgets required it (worth mentioning). Its a bit disappointing that you can't have a "current" book small widget or option in app for when the app starts to reload the current book.

It would be nice if Fabrik settings could be synced to dropbox or at least saved/restored from sdcard.

  7. It would be awesome if you could resize the widgets so that either the book is bigger if 1x1 widget. But definetely list more books at the same time at the other widget.

  8. The widgets work well on my Nexus 7, but on my Galaxy Nexus the only only option in the widgets menu is the 1x2 mini-book. The 4x2 stack widget is missing from the menu!

  9. I do love this app! I have noticed though that when using the widget to open a book, the app does not auto sync to the newest saved page, thus a problem when using two devices. What it does is the widget opens and updates w/ dropbox, not syncs.

  10. Eric: this is a great app, my man. Ran into it by coincidence and it has been an amazing e-reading experience already. Thanks for your hard work!

Couple of minor things I noticed after my first day of use (I also wrote some of them in my review on Play):

    1. I can't get 'one-page' landscape mode. I love the 'two-page-on-my-screen' layout for a tablet, but I read on my phone too and the two-page layout is just too small. Can you make a one-page landscape mode available?

    2. It would be convenient if we can change the name of the author or the title of the book within the app. I've tried name-changing the source file in dropbox, but Fabrik keeps remembering the old name, not the new one (after updating).

    3. Can you give us an option to turn the tips off? :-) I've read them all with pleasure (great feature; very considerate), but now I know all about the app, so I'd like to turn them off.

    4. I absolutely love the title line at the top of each page, but sometimes (when I'm reading a huge book) I don't want to see the percentage I have read. Can you give us an option to turn percentage off (but keep the title header?)

Thanks man! I've given you a rave review on Play, as I finally feel my search for the perfect e-reader could be over. I'm really looking forward to updates in the future, and purchasing the full app.

  11. EDIT: Nevermind on the tips! Found the uncheck box (thanks to, oh the irony, a tip). Thanks!

  12. Wow a new render engine... I would definitely buy it then, I was just writing on the play store (ca) about the rendering of code snippets in all my O'reilly's books. This will be awesome, I'll finally ditch Moon+.
