We made XDA portal today! A BIG THANK YOU to every beta user!

Hi everybody,

As many of you may already know, Fabrik Reader made its way to the portal of XDA developer today. This blows my mind! It's way beyond my imagination! I simply began developing Fabrik Reader because I wanted to have a good looking, reasonably functional book reader myself. And when I did that, I thought it would be nice to share it with you guys, and I did it, and just a few weeks later, here we are.

Now to be completely honest with you, the other reason I published Fabrik Reader is that I want to see how far I can go if I really put in some effort to design and develop an app. Although for some other developers it may not seem to be such a big deal to be put on xda portal, for me it really means a lot, and I'm really really excited!

I want to thank all of you, my dear beta users. YOU are the reason Fabrik Reader made it to the xda portal today. Fabrik Reader is getting better everyday because of your excellent feedback. Your support is what keeps me going. A BIG THANK YOU to all of you!

  1. I just installed your app today on my galaxy s3 and nexus 7 and I must say that it is awesome. I've been looking for a pretty ereader with sync features for a long time and there is just nothing out there. Well done. The only additional thing I would like to see is 3d page animation. I'd happily pay for your app so if you have any way to accept donations let Me know .

  2. Just loved it! I'd like to see the option to change background and letter color.

  3. Again, I second the comments above. Just a great app. Despite it not detecting the contents of a few of my books, well done. :-)

    1. Would mind sending me some books that does not work correctly so I can fix it? Thank you.

  4. Ah, if you decide to include bkg and letter color in options do not use those terrible RGB slide bars we encounter in the other readers. A choice of a number of fixed colors will do.

    1. Feature request noted. I'll try to figure out some more colors.

    2. Thank you. Now, a question. I don't think I understand the way the app order the list of books on device. At first it seems it does by ascending alphabetical order but then some books look out of that order.

Another question. I created a folder in my Dropbox folder (Dropbox/xyz/) and pointed the device to that. Then it created a "Fabrik" folder under that (Dropobx/xyz/Fabrik). I put all my ebook there and then, when synching, it created a further folder under Fabrik called books where it looks it is putting duplicate copies of all the books already in .../Fabrik/ with the suffix "2". What am I doing wrongly?

  5. One more: please make it possible that the pre-loaded books (Alice... Sherlock Holmes...) once deleted do not come back.

    1. I order the book list by the most recent time that you open a book. I think this way you could quickly access the book that you've been reading recently. Any way, with the search function(with voice support) in 0.45 beta it should be easy to find your book even if you have a big list.

For now what Fabrik did with your Dropbox is that you assign a folder(default is /App), and we will create a folder Fabrik in that folder, and then a book list file(or possibly more meta data in the future) will be put directly on the Fabrik folder, and a further sub folder "Books" in the Fabrik folder will be created to store all the books.

For now if you change where the Fabrik folder is(via the settings), it won't move the existing Fabrik folder, but to create a new one and re-sync all of the books on your phone there again. The reason I did this is that so you can have multiple Fabrik book "repository" in your Dropbox if you know what I mean. I know the system is not that flexible right now, but I really prefer not to create an option for every single aspect of the app. I'll give it some thoughts in the future, or maybe you have some ideas to share with me?

    2. Your argument about book order works the other way around: with the search function it is easy to find the most recently opened books. And plus: do not forget that voice search function works according the default language (mine is Brazilian Portuguese), so "it" will not understand my search of books with file titles in other languages than the default language. But even remaining within the realm of English, you probably know that the language on the other end of the search engine do not understand even dialectal varieties of the same language not to mention cases in which that language is uttered by foreign (to the base language) speakers. Well, that is becoming too complicated.

I just hope that in the future you give us some way of simply sorting the books as we wish (an alphabetical order is so natural and so expected!).

Thanks again for you attention and all your efforts.

    3. Actually I'm not a native english speaker myself, but in my nexus 7(android 4.1) it'll recognize english even if you set the device language to Chinese... Any way, point taken there, and alphabetical order should come soon!

  6. Still more remarks:

    1. Justification is a must.

    2. It is hard to understand how sync works. Is it a two-way sync? Why some books seem to appear as duplicated copies on the desktop after synching?

    3. The order (or lack of it) in the listing of books on the device is really annoying. It would be nice to be able to choose one's preferred order and also to have the option to choose between a graphic view and a simple filename view.

    4. It would be desirable to have the option of creating folders for classifying one's books. l
Well, too many requests, but it is just I think it is a great app. Otherwise I would not even bother to write anything.

    Thanks.

    1. 1. Justification done in 0.45 beta!

      2. Duplicated copies? That could be a bug. I'll look into that.

3 and 4. I realize that the simple list view is not working very good with people who have lots of books. I'll give you guys a way to group books or sort in future release. For now, the 0.45 beta has just added search function(with voice support), so it should be relatively easy to find your books even if you have lots of them now.
