2.2: Annotation for your summer!

Hey guys,

How is your summer going? Lying on some beach and reading your favorite novels with fabrik reader? Cool! My summer is kind of busy, but I think the efforts tend to pay off. So here it is: Fabrik Reader 2.2!

The most significant improvement in this version is the support for annotation, as well as notes (of course they are synchronized, like everything else with fabrik reader). Also some small UI tweaks have been made. Check out the following screenshots!

The last picture is a summary view of all your notes in a book. You'll see it by clicking the orange note counter in the right bottom corner of your book cover. As for the annotation toolbar, I'm sure you know what to do with it, so just poke around and have fun.

I've also redesigned the icon (again!), and here it is, hope you like it better than the last one :)

I think now with the support for annotation and notes, fabrik reader is somewhat feature complete. Personally I can't really think of any major feature that's missing. I'm aware of many small bugs and glitches here and there though, and don't worry, fixes will keep coming. I've also created a place for you guys to submit issues or feature requests: http://fabrikreader.helpshift.com/. So if you see anything out of ordinary, or you have some exciting new ideas, you know what to do :)

That's it. Enjoy!

  1. Really, you need to implement search in books. You cannot say it's feature complete when you cannot search in books. It's like the number one feature with e-books. :)

  2. Same with auto-tag support from calibre! Aldiko and moon+ reader both import your books and tag them automatically from calibre's tag feature. Perfect for aggregating series.

  3. Love the new color and look. Still need a better way to sort by tags than the drop down menu for those of us with massive libraries.

    1. Forgot to say also, love the new annotation system as well that was an important feature that was missing for this (the best) ebook reader.

  4. I'm having the same problem that I had with the previous version: it doesn't download all of my books from the Dropbox folder. It always stops in the letter "e", in the book number 243 from a total of 985. I can add book by book and manually the rest, but it is not useful. Have you checked this??

  5. Details View? How do I tell my Books Apart? There is no way to see book size, name or any other details that might help me work out the next book in a series etc

  6. I am currently using the premium version of Mantano, but am unhappy with the slow progress of features there, plus the paid subscription for cloud management.

I would love to use your product with the Google Drive sync'ing, but would need far more library management features. As someone said above, adding tags is key, but series management is critical. Mantano, for example, shows the series from calibre and allows sorting by series. However, it has no ability to change series info. Adding series and tag management into Fabrik would make me an instant convert to Fabrik.

  7. Was that in previus version too. Fabrik crashes when you try to start it and the book was previously not closed.

The syncro with dropbox is working now. Thanks for that IMPORTANT fix.

  9. I think that you need to implement statistics, like time of reading, books readed and another things.

  10. It would be better if we could edit the book title

  12. Feature request:
    1. Add local folders for local books. Just let us select a default folder so that the app can fetch all the books from it(also from subfolders).
    2. Maybe add good pdf support. Some books are not always available in epub.
    3. Last read position.

  14. Why 2 version 2.2 , such as 2.14 or the latest look at txt file to retrieve data when not completely , that I can not see the last chapter , but I sink back to 1.43 all is normal ! My practical is the Professional Edition

  15. How come Fabrik doesn't announce to the Android system that it can read epub?

  16. Love the reader, is very easy to use and works well over two devices. I have a request, a setting to stop you opening books while it's syncing.

Occasionly I get trigger happy and opens book on a second device and lose track of my position.
If device 1 is on 30% and then I open device 2, read to 35%. This gets saved to cloud.
Reopen device1 but don't wait for sync to complete (can be 5secs) and open book I'm back at 30% and next sync keeps me there

  21. Wow, that is something: you need to uninstall the free version before you can install the pro version. I was stupid enough to follow your advice and now I cannot find any version of fabrik and cannot even go back to the free one. So I kicked myself out and need another ereader, thanks a lot.

  22. Yes quite frustrating how the developer abandoned his paying customers. I've been able to download the apk from a pirate site, which is risky, but it did work.
