Fabrik 2.1: Google Drive Support

Hey guys,

This time it's really simple: Google Drive support is finally coming! With a new splash screen!

So if you're synching with Dropbox right now and want to switch to Google Drive, just press menu, and select Cloud, and you'll be redirecting to this splash screen, in which you can choose to link to Google Drive.

I'm trying my best to make Fabrik as perfect as it can be. So, as always, if you run into any problem at all, please contact me. I may not be able to response in time, but I'll definitely read your message and put them in my (very long) todo list. Enjoy!

  1. Hopefully that image is an old one, I reported the spelling mistake a while ago :-)

    Should be "Google Drive".

  2. I used to have a folder for Fabrik in Dropbox with all my epubs (without subfolders, only the epubs), but the whole library that I manage with Calibre is placed in Google Drive. So I am trying right now to use that library with Fabrik but the app doesn't detect any book. If I manually add one, the app downloads and opens it without any problem, but it doesn't find anyone by itself in the subfolders that Calibre creates. Is there any problem with subfolders??

Other problem that I've noticed is the name of the folders. When I check in the menu which folders are linked or where is the Fabrik one, instead of its name appears a long alphanumeric code. I guess that it's an internal name, but it is confusing. It would be better to see the real name.

By the way, I still have problems with the index of some books, and now I know for sure that it is not due to the conversion of the book from the previous version of Fabrik.

    1. You have to put calibre folder inside the Fabrik folder in your Google Drive. Or, you could press menu, open, then navigate to your calibre folder, and then press the link button on the action bar, which will link your calibre folder with Fabrik.

Do you mean the table of contents by "Index of some books"? Could you please email the books you're having problem with to fabrikreader at gmail.com? I'll see what I can do.

    2. I've just moved again my calibre folder to Dropbox and I could synchronised it, but with Google Drive it doesn't work.

I'll send you an email with a pair of books. Thanks in advance ;)

    3. I've have just realized that my library it is not completely synchronized (only the first 42 authors, 233 books). Installing and unnistalling the app doesn't solve anything, because after every synchronization it always stops in the same point. It seems like if it couldn't add more books to the database, but nevertheless if I add manually book by book, it works.

If you want to check something in my dropbox folder, I can give access.

    4. I'm having the same problem although my library is pretty big at about 1000 books. If I open one by one then the books import . otherwise fabrik appears to be synchronizing but doesn't load all the books.

For the non-spanish speakers: he's just moved all the books to other folder and wants to delete the books that he had before. I suggested him to unninstall and install it again. Is there any other way to clean the Fabrik's library??

  7. I just got the pro version. I thought the development was dead, but this is a NICE surprise, you reader is one of the best readers out there for android users. I love the interface and aesthetics. Keep the good work.

  8. I have strong feeling, that sync with dropbox is not working or working veeery slow (or to slow to send/receive just a reading progress for each book)
I am reading books on two devices tablet and phone, and lastly very often the other device is not syncronized even thought both devices had permanent access to wifi and fabrik was started (on the secondary device) when access to wifi existed. After looong while when sync icon was spinning the book that i stopped read on the second device remained not syncronized.

In order to get rid of such worries, i propose to implement something like 'sync status icon' that will be assigned to each book, and will be informing us if book is synced or not. As well as possibility (context menu) to manually sync a book.

Beside that I still love that reader...:-)

    1. That's a very reasonable request for people having a big library.

  9. I love your reader. I have just started using it (pro version) , and it is very easy to use. I'm using Google Drive sync. However, the status of the books is not synchronized. I read in my tablet and my phone, but I always have to go to the latest position manually... Is this a bug, or only happens to me?
In any case, thanks for this app.

  12. Thanks for continuing to create a FANTASTIC ebook reader. I have literally tried them all, and have loved watching Fabrik develop over the past few months.

Feature request for those of us that fall asleep while reading in bed :) ... is it hard to code a setting to auto-off the device after X minutes? I love that it's on while reading, but the always on has chewed my battery down a few times when I've walked off to a meeting or fallen asleep while having Fabrik launched.

Keep up the great work, looking forward to Fabrik becoming the #1 ereader!

  13. Hi, I understand you are probably very busy with the app, but when I try to connect a my phone to my google drive after connecting my tablet already, it gives me a "Woops, something is wrong" message. How do you connect 2 devices to the same Google drive and have it sync? I'm on a Galaxy Nexus running CM10.1 btw.

  14. Hi, really great! Your App is the most beautiful reader App!

Please add more typefaces, fonts like ComicSans on Windows or Rosemary on Samsung Galaxy, it would be perfect. I use your reader on my Galaxy Note and Note 10.1 and I love it.

  15. I can't seem to find how to get ahold of the developer so I am posting here is hopes someone may direct me. I use fabrik for my cell and tablet (which I do most of my reading with). I only have WiFi on my tablet so when my tablet is out of WiFi service it obviously does not send my progression in the book to my cell. In this case if I wanted to read on my cell I would have to find my spot which is fine for me BUT whenever my tablet is put of WiFi signal my cell searches for a sync and resets itself at 0%. Now I can't even find my place from the last sync. I have to find it from the beginning of the book. I'm wondering if there is a way around. PS. I didn't have this issue before going pro :-? Thanks for any help. Love the app otherwise :-)

    1. I have the same, a Wi-Fi only tablet and a cell phone. Both Samsung. Sync works great with Dropbox. If I read on the tablet when out of range, it immediately syncs when I return to Wi-Fi.

  17. Hi I am really interested in this software. It has the killer feature that I was looking for... I will buy it for sure!

But Google drive is not working for me. I am getting ops error, it can't show me folder structure. But Dropbox is working perfect. So I understand that the method I have using is the correct. I do not have two step authentication. I have checked also two 4.2.1 Android devices, a tablet and my phone.

    Can you please help me?

  18. Hello, I am the same here, I bought the paid version and now it works Drive sync. Thanks

  19. There's a bug in the reader that catches me about every day. It's easy to crash the reader like this:

    - open any book
    - press home or the application switcher button without going back to the main screen
    - open a couple of applications until the activity showing the book expired and is removed
    - go back to the reader, by launching the application or with the app switch button

It will crash every time, which is kind of annoying.

This is on nexus 4 with 4.2.2.

  20. Do you also work on a Fabrik for iPad? I love Fabrik on mij android phone, but want to read and sync with my iPad, so I wonder if there comes a apple version?

  21. it would be really great if you could work out this: the paging transition flipping effect in landscape mode should be flipped by the middle of the page, instead being flipped on the left side for 2 page.
i don't know if you get this or not :D but i'm enjoying your free version for now, if this work on the next update, i'll definitely buying, and recommend it to all my known friends and relatives!

    Cheers!

  22. I've been trying to solve the problem with the synchronization by copying all my epubs with the PC to the tablet, but the app stops the synchronization with the book number 389, which was exactly what happened when I simply synchronised them with Dropbox or Google Drive. What I mean is that the problem of the number of books doesn't seem to be related with the synchronization in itself rather with a problem in the capacity of the database of Fabrik. Eric, are you working on this?? Thanks in advance ;)

  23. Eric, how can I go back to one of the previous Version? Right now sync with dropbox doesn't work at all and I remember it worked in the past. I was waiting for fix one month, but there is no response from your side and no info if you work on that issue or not...

  25. Hi. I found a bug. If you are reading and turn the tablet (nexus10) portrait toy landscape or viceversa too fast, the book will return to page 1. If you do it slowly it's Ok...

  26. Love the program. Does crash a bit too frequently though, when trying to reopen a book? Also, any way to search for a word within the book-being-read? That feature would come in handy when, for example, a character reappears in the story after a 100 page absence. Using On Samsung Galaxy Tablet and Samsung Galaxy II mobile phone.

  27. I hope the developer read these comments since I wouldn't want to spam via e-mail just for this... Is it possible not to auto-sync at start up? I understand it's done so the progress between devices is kept but, for people like me, that reads only on their phone, and doesn't get new books often i don't see why we need to use data / wifi to update whenever we open the app to read what's already synched; and shouldn't have to turn them off either to do so.

My request is simple enough: Add an option to turn off auto-sync at start up, so i can just use the app as a reader without data/wifi usage. If i ever get new books i can just tap the button to update the booklist and if i ever get a different device, i could easily enable the auto-sync again.

  31. I have tested all and this is by far the best ebook reader (in my opinion, of course) but... can I ask for something? I have Fabrik on my android tablet and my android cellphone but what I miss is a windows version to have it in my laptop (and quit using bluestacks) or (much better) a Chrome extension. Is that possible?

  32. Hello, just purchased your pro version and it is great. However i have a feature request. Is it possible when i sort my books by progress that those books are on top, not at the bottom, since i have many books and i want to continue reading a book but its always at the bottom. Thanks!

  33. Hola yo compre fabrik y me parece increible, pero tengo un problema con ella o eso creo yo, no me abre los libros completos y es frustrante ,¿que tengo q hacer ,o como lo soluciono? Muchas gracias

  34. I definitely love your app, Eric. One thing I really miss though is having the ability to make notes on selected text. I know it's not easy to make, but I hope it fits n your already long todo list.

  35. I think this is a pretty awesome app, but the tag support isn't as robust as Moon+ Reader or Aldiko. If it were possible to auto-tag from Calibre I'd definitely make the switch. I read a lot of series books, so tags are 100% essential to me. I understand you can tag books on your own, but that defeats the purpose of Calibre's tag export feature which other readers can handle.

  37. Hi,
I use fabrik to sync my samsung tab 10.1 and t-mobile blaze 4g.

The blaze have physic button to access the menu and adjust the font size and theme.

The galaxy don't have any phisic button so I don't know how to do the adjustments.

How can I show the option I hide them?

    Thanks for your support.

  38. I'm new to Fabrik, and like what I see so far. But, I can't open DRM-protected files? Where do I put my email and password for that?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Hi Eric. Just found Fabrik, and it looks really good. I'm wondering: If I'm a teacher, and I have my books on a shared Dropbox or Google Drive account, then does that mean that all of my students could read the same book at the same time? If that's true: How would each student's reading progress "sync?" And what would happen with highlights and annotations? Just curious!
